It has come to my attention that I did not post a funniest television moment of the week last week and for that I apologize. I don’t know how I forgot to post last week because it was another hilarious week of television but I remembered this week. Another great week of television has forced me to once again award the funniest moment of the week to two different shows this week. This week both Modern Family and Parks and Recreation had the funniest moments of the week.
It has happened before and this week, it is happening again. The title Funniest Moment of the Week is not always the perfect title because often, the funniest moment is not a single moment but a reoccurring premise or idea. This week on Modern Family, a large portion of the plot revolves around what Phil Dunphy refers to as “Satan’s trifecta.” The day Phil has feared for years has finally hit, all three of the women in the Dunphy house are beginning their “time of the month” on the same day. To make matters even worse, the day of the trifecta happens to be Phil’s favorite day of the year: Leap Day. In the Dunphy household, Leap Day is one of the biggest celebrations the family gets every four years. Seen as an extra, bonus day, Leap Day cannot be wasted on regular activities like school or work. On Leap Day the Dunphys do something different and crazy, like the 2012 Leap Day when they plan to take acrobat classes. The funniest part of the episode was watching Luke, Phil and Manny try and tiptoe around the Dunphy girls as they boys attempted to save Leap Day.
This week’s other funniest moment was in fact a single moment from Parks and Recs. To try and prove that the Parks department does not need a replacement for Leslie Knope, Chris tasks them with completing a single project. Reluctantly led by Ron Swanson, the Parks department attempts to make the town water fountains more eco-friendly. As is to be expected, work on the project turns into a giant water balloon fight. Chris walks into the office in the middle of fight, directly into the funniest moment of the week. Andy, charging out of the corner with water balloons taped all over his body, yells “Kamikaze” and gives Chris a soaking wet bear hug.
